Today, I am back to reality*!

Lol it seems Jarkie posted while I was trying to put my pix up! I’ll try not to be redundant…but there can’t be too much blues talk, IMO ๐Ÿ˜‰

I spent the past weekend in the wonderful Chelsea-land (a football infused utopia I’ve created in my mind) and got to spend some quality time with Jarkie in Bethesda! Our non-game time was pretty relaxed and relaxing and we got to enjoy sushi, bridal magazines, skyping with char, french breakfasts, and free cupcakes! We also got to see our lovely friend Nina before she headed off to start med school! It’s so wonderful to be able to spend quality time with friends in this ย period of our lives when everyone is moving to and fro and transitioning into being real people. ๐Ÿ˜›

For the whole weekend, I was not-so-jokingly toying with the idea of going to the team hotel and trying to get autographs. I wasn’t sure if that was a real thing that people do and I didn’t want to be like some random stalker. But I did see a video of (a lot of) people doing that so next time Chelsea is in town, I’ll definitely be trying to get some photos!
Anyway, we did get to the stadium insanely early because I wanted to see if we could catch a glimpse of the players and WE DID! We pressed up against the fence to greet their bus and watch them walk into the tunnel. Standing for nearly 2 hours against the fence was totally worth it and having Jannie and my cousin Richard there with me is a memory I will surely cherish! Instead of posting too many details, I’ll just leave you with some photos (click to see larger size and captions). We (chelsea) ended up winning 2-1 and we (J,R,M) were sitting about 100ft away from the end zone. WOOT!

All in all, it was a great experience and I hope to have many more similar ones. As for now, it’s back to life as normal and trying to establish some kind of routine again…we’ll see how that goes. OH the season starts for both Chelsea and Madrid this weekend so maybe that’ll make things feel like normal again! I guess summer really is almost over…

Have a lovely day! ๐Ÿ™‚

*Who am I kidding? I’m always in Chelsealand.

Today, I recap the weekend!

Whooooo, thanks toย Markie, I’m officially aย Chelsea FCย fan! Markie came to see the Chelsea vs Romaย (read this article… since I am no sports reporter… or wait for Markie’s official post)ย friendly atย RFK Stadiumย in DC. I decided to tag along with her and who knew? My fascination forย free thingsย andย pretty men would bring me to be a fan. Since it was a friendly [I’m assuming this], both teams seemed to be conserving energy. The second half definitely seemed to have far more energy.

For some weird reason, the section we were seated in decided to stand the entire game. No one else in the stadium did that. This led to some commotion with people behind us screaming “SIT DOWN. SIT DOWN. SIT DOWN.” Someone went as far to scream “THERE ARE LITTLE KIDS BACK HERE. THEY CAN’T SEE. SIT DOWN.” It was a bit frustrating, since I’m lazy and I like sitting. I would have been able to see so much more had everyone sat. Both oh well ๐Ÿ™‚

And now to my collection, nine Chelsea flags. A CFC scarf, a jersey (that is technically for my dad… but for now, it belongs to me ๐Ÿ˜› ), a pin…. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ a lanyard. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ Okay, that’s it for now.

Score: 2 CHELSEA, 1 ROMA

Okay and for the pictures –

In action (sort of)

Prettty oscar.

Um… anyone feeling a little warm? Nando

David making his way into RFK. Markie thinks he had a limp. Me thinks he was just trying to be cool ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜›

Today, I am heading back home.

What a CRAZY few days!

Drive from NC to MD
Meet up with Jarkie and get “breakfast” at 10pm

Drive from MD to NYC
Stop in Brooklyn for bread and to meet my grandpa’s adorable brother who I didn’t even know existed (Calixte…cool name!)
Drive to stadium in NJ
Cheer on the team among throngs of national team fans!
Drive from NJ to MD at 1am

Leave MD at 3pm and hopefully get home in a timely manner

It seems that everything that could go wrong did go wrong. My dad is always quoting Murphy’s law.

I’ll be getting a ticket for running a red light which, long story short, is false. My dad is gonna get a ticket from a toll because he went to the EZpass line and once he realized it, he couldn’t back up. And I’m sure we’ll probably get some kind of speeding ticket because Maryland gives them out like toothbrushes at the dentist’s office.

It took us 4 hours to get from Brooklyn to the Stadium–a 12 mile drive. We had a ticket for a double header (2 games back to back) and we completely missed the first one and barely made it for kickoff of the second one. I only had $7 for $10 parking so I had to make a U-turn and meet up with my dad who hopped out to get food. My grandpa (Pepe) and I didn’t have much time so we only ate a quarter of our sandwiches and I put the rest in my bag so we could run to the stadium. Of course, no food is allowed so I had to throw it away.

And to top it all off, Haiti lost 2-0.

BUT, at the end of the day, this was one of the most fun trips ever! I adopted the “it is what it is” mentality before we left and it really paid off! I can’t wait to get home and sleep but I enjoyed my epic road trip.

P.s. I forgot to mention that I spent 4 hours being run ragged by two absolutely adorable, yet exhausting, kids. I learned A LOT.

Today, I am stopping by.

Hi all! Sorry for all the MIA-ness. Between traveling and driving my sister to and fro, I have not had much time to stop, rest, and think for a moment. I haven’t even done my Portuguese lessons lately!

There’ll be some more absence on my part because I will start be working again on Monday and then off to New Orleans on Thursday!

Other than that, I’ll be more seriously relearning…everything…to take the GRE in August and then start working on my applications. Perhaps I’ll be here seeking inspiration when I get stuck and don’t know how to convey my life in words.

Oh, also the Confederation’s Cup begins today! It’s a tournament where all the champions from the different continental championships come together and play for top bragging rights. So, for example Spain won Euro 2012 so they will be there. Uruguay won South America’s cup, Japan/Asia, Nigeria, Tahiti…and BRAZIL because they’re hosting! SO PUMPED for today’s Brazil v Japan match.

I told my mom that I didn’t know whether to watch this afternoon’s match on the Spanish language channel (more fun) or the English Channel (more comprendo) and she said it didn’t matter because football is its own language. I’ve taught her well. And I hope I’m teaching y’all something too! I need more fans in my life!

Ok, bye bye for now!

WE WON!! CHELSEA WON THE EUROPA LEAGUE!! I literally rolled around on the floor in the last few minutes of the game. The end was THRILLING.
So happy.

Now if Real can win the Copa del Rey, Orb can win the Preakness, and my sister can win her graduation (wait, she’s done that! Congrats, love!) then by Sunday, I’ll be the happiest girl in allll the land.

…I’m still pretty happy now, though ๐Ÿ™‚
