Today, I leave a kiss on post-it note…

Long time no see! Sorry we’ve all been a bit MIA. Charkie has been labouriously brushing up anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry knoweldge for her finals; Markie has been settling down in her new life (which I saw, is pretty sweet!) and being social, and Arkie has been busy with her job and being awesome. As for me? I have no excuse. Sorry!

This morning, as I left for work, I didn’t want to wake le significant other up, so I decided to do what I’ve seen in countless romcoms: leave a note and a kiss. I felt like a penguin waddling around in the dark and falling all over the place. Where’s the post-it note? How do I cut the tape? I can’t see! However, when I had the finished product hanging up on the wall… How did it feel? Pretty cool… I guess.

Lancome’s Color Design Lipstick in Wannabe Pink will do the trick! 🙂

And now to something sort of related, not really – what’s your favorite lipstick (or lipgloss, if you don’t wear lipstick)? What’s your favorite romantic comedy?

Today, I feel closer to my wifey… and some other things.

Holla! Our dearest Charkie over in Budapest experienced daylight savings, which brings her closer in time to us -arkies on the US EST time for a week (well that’s until dearest Markie makes HER EXCITING JOURNEY to the fabulous LA). I can’t remember if I’ve ever mentioned this, but I feel like I consider the -arkies my spouses and address them as “wifey.” Sometimes, it feels like a long-distance relationship (even with dearest Arkie so close to me).

…. Well, that brings me to the topic of long-distance relationships! What have your experiences with LDRs been like? Success? Failure? Suggestions? I would say that communication is key… and communicating about how you want to communicate is also a big one. Mmmm… okay away I go for my massage! 😀 😀 😀

Expect a halloween surprise (did someone say giveaway?) soon! 🙂 Have a lovely Sunday, dearest readers!

Today, I’m going on a date!

Eeeeeep. I’m going on a date… I won’t say much for now except that I will meet with someone for tea/coffee. 🙂 I’ll channel my inner Liz Lemon –

On a side note, I attended the Pharmacology lecture of my mini medical school series and I just wanted to let you all know: Throw out your grapefruit juice if you’re taking any sort of -statin (high cholesterol) medications! (Avoid that food-drug interaction that you don’t want! And yes, that means Crestor, Lipitor, etc.)

Have a lovely hump day!

Today, I’m feeling 22…

So as the Arkies know, I will be growing a bit older on Saturday. To celebrate this (why do we celebrate aging?), I will be leading an excursion to a farm where we will pick raspberries [hopefully], shop at a farmer’s market, go on an awesome hayride, and sit and laugh around a bonfire. It seems like the perfect fall outdoors activity and I am oh so excited! But until then, I will still feel 22 for 2 days hehe. So, now celebrating the past year… I think of Taylor Swift’s song “22.”

I’ve definitely “dressed up like a hipster” (if one can do that. humph.) and made fun of my ex’s and had breakfast (Tastee Diner) at midnight… and fallen in love with strangers (pretty hair, pretty accent, oh you so pretty… ). The year gave me the chance to experience heartbreak, rekindle the flame, and then experience heartbreak a second time around. But such is what happens with growing older. I’ve figured out an idea of which direction (this would be life/career wise) I’m headed in now… and working on what needs to be done to go in that direction.

So with that, I’m excited for this 22, part II… with my lovely -arkies by my side 🙂

I don’t know about you (I don’t know about you)
But I’m feeling 22
Everything will be alright
If you keep me next to you
You don’t know about me (you don’t know about me)
But I’ll bet you want to
Everything will be alright
If we just keep dancing like we’re
22, ooh-ooh, yeah, yeah

Today, I’ve got butterflies in my stomach… what about you?

Teehee… here’s a topic that we don’t mention much, but we do have a section up there (^^ feel free to browse our blog topics using our menu up top) .. what about a little more romantic aspects of our lives? Well, I certainly am lacking in that department at the moment. I’ll let the other -arkies speak for themselves.

Image via whicdn.com

Kicking off this love/relationship series, I’m starting to get butterflies in my stomach! It’s a feeling that I’ve come to both like and dislike. My mind is a whirlwind (tornado) of thoughts: Eye contact.. no eye contact… cheeks are feeling a little warm…. ehhhhhh…. let me run away… RAWR! From a more scientific perspective, the butterflies happen due to a reduction of blood flow to the stomach. The blood is, literally, getting stolen by my HEART! Heart racing, increased blood pressure? All part of it. Welp, there you have it. I was wondering why my heart started racing a little when I saw someone. 🙂 Maybe I should have pulled out my blood pressure kit (yep, I come prepared) and checked my blood pressure right then and there. Have you had this feeling lately? Is it something you enjoy? Or would you rather just skip this entire part of courtship (or lack-of courtship in my case)? hehe

That fluttery feeling that you feel in your stomach at the sight of a new love or sight of, let’s say, Anderson Cooper/Joseph Gordon-Levitt/Wang Leehom/[insert name] … is caused by the release of adrenaline in the fight-or-flight response!

Interested in learning more? Here’s an article from a while ago that I remember reading.

Today, I ask you: Eat, Pray, Love? [Submit your experience/Ask Your Questions!] :)

“Nostalgia makes us a bit more human” – In a recent NYT blog, John Tierney discusses how nostalgia can actually be a good thing. Memories of my six months abroad (2011) studying, living, conducting research, traveling, meeting people, pretending I was Indian (in both India and China… haha fooled that Chinese cab driver! 😛 ) in Udaipur (India), Beijing (China), Anhui (birthplace), & Yunnan (my home foreversssss) constantly come back to me.

via: fyeahmindyproject.tumblr.com

This reminds me of Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love. Okay okay, I’ll be honest. I stopped reading that book after I finished India. And I stopped watching the movie after she left Italy. So … I guess I don’t know what happened in INDONESIA! Haha. But then … as relationships come and go… somehow… accidentally, I was living out my own version of Eat, Pray, Love.

Eat. Okay that needs no explanation. This is 100% always happening.
Pray. The temples in India, my village temple in Yunnan, the clouds in Yunnan, the mountains in Yunnan, the sunset in Udaipur, the forts in Udaipur, the desert, the 115 degree Fahrenheit days in Udaipur, the stares, the bike accident after actually drunken noodles, etc etc… they all made me wonder about my own particular views and beliefs again. I’m still not sure… just as lost as Margaret was in Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret
Love. Welp. Welp. Welp. I did not find love in the form of a Brazilian businessman, if you’re wondering about that… but…
I think about this trip so much… because it was unplanned, completely by accident. But it meant so much to me. I turned into an infant, crawling around, eating with my fingers (literally.. what a disaster and a complete mess that was when it came to rice.. but I mastered the art of the eat-yo-roti-with-just-yo-right-hand technique. Whoot!) … meeting all sorts of lovely folks, learning new languages, learning more of Jarkie.
So my question to YOU, lovely readers… have you ever had an Eat, Pray, Love sort of experience? Did you plan it ? Or did you just open the door and there it was by accident? Or do you have a question about my experience? Feel free to share below in the comments or in the comment box below (these will be privately sent to us – let us know if you mind us sharing your experience & with or without your name) or you can email us at todaycommai@gmail.com. I’ll try to do a follow up postttttt 🙂

[EDIT]: Our unspoken little blog rule: one post per day. But it’s a new day! 47 minutes (as I’m typing this) into the new day!

Some photos below – alright, good night, dear readers!

Today, I’m wondering about love but it’s time to travel!! (Birchbox June 2013)

I’m feeling a bit sick, physically and emotionally. Stomach bug? Eh. Maybe I shouldn’t have had those late night mozarella sticks.

All throughout my Disney years and my Asian drama (Princess Pearl? Remember?) years, I always imagined that love would be an easy thing. You find someone out in the crowd and then the love happens. 天长地久 (tian chang di jiu, sky long earth long), enduring as the universe. It’s funny because just like Hebe’s (from S.H.E) song LOVE!, seems like things are presented more like –

我爱你 你爱她
I love you. You love her.
她爱她 她爱他
She loves her. She loves him.
你爱我 我爱他
You love me. I love him.
他爱他 他爱她
He loves him. He loves her.

And some people are lucky enough for that line to end at the first line. Others experience 4, 5, 6 lines of this song. And I’m sure other things get in the way… called Life. hahaha. So anyways, tis what happens I suppose. Just embrace it. One day things will bump around… and a word will change and that song above will need only one line.

Coping mechanism: TRAVEL! I’m so jealous of all the traveling I see on friends’ blogs/facebook pages/snapchats (yes I use snapchat, I should start looking into VINE haha)… I cannot wait to go back into the air (or on water in a boat) and go somewhere new. But for now, I’ll have to just work with what I’ve got. Home. And DC.

My Birchbox (Wanderlust) came two days ago. I’m also expecting my Love with Food box today (that review should be up shortly). I loved this month’s Birchbox!!!! It’s one of the best ones I’ve received in a while! So excited.

New Design! What do you think of it?

Time for travels! ❤

Love that it came with 5 postcards! And love the birchbox gift boxes they send out each time 🙂

This month’s theme is wanderlust, and they’ve filled the boxes with samples that should be (and are) perfect for all of our summer adventures! Though, sadly, I won’t be doing any traveling…

photo 5 (13)

  • Birchbox + Color Club Wanderlust Collection (1 mini polish: $2.00/ full size: $8.00)- The collection comes with four neon pastel shades that are inspired by four cities. The one I received is London Calling represented by a light green shade. “Two coats will give you an opaque glossy finish. ” I don’t normally paint my nails, so hopefully this will end up in a giveaway coming soon!
  • suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser (0.25 fl oz: $2.05/Full size: $32.90) – I also received this deluxe (larger) sample in my NewBeauty box and was so EXCITED to see another sample in my box. It’s got a very citrusy (lemony) scent that wakes me up right away! The beads when rubbed immediately turn into foam… so awesome! My face always feels amazing after using this cleanser!
  • LAQA & CO. Lil’ Lip Duo (.07 pencil: $8.00/ full size duo: $8.00)- These pencils are creamy and have a minky kick. I love the finish of it (definitely a good professional look since it’s not too glossy). I used just one coat of it to get a nice color.

photo 4 (16)

  • Davines Love Smoothing Shampoo  (2.5 oz: $7.50 / full size 8 oz: $24.00)  – I always need travel-sized shampoo so this was nice. This shampoo has a light scent (probably from the Indian fig extract and olive oil). This is apparently for dry and fizzy hair which is exactly what I need! I don’t know if Birchbox listened to our profiles finally but this is perfect!
**I love the sample bottle it came it. It has a twist-off cap, which is perfect for refilling with shampoo! I will definitely add this to my travel-size container collection 🙂Beauty Extras
  • Davines Love Smoothing Conditioner (0.41 oz: $1.40 / full size 8 oz: $27.50)- Formulated with nourishing borage seed oil. Conditioner is so necessary.
  • Davines OI/OIL Absolute Beautifying Potion (0.10 oz: $0.50 / full size 8 oz: $40.00) – I love experimenting with hair oils just because I have such dry and damaged hair.

I loved this month’s box (value came to $21.45). The only thing I wish could have happened differently? Maybe I could have received deluxe samples of the conditioner and/or hair oil instead of the shampoo. But that’s a small thing. And I can’t complain. Excited to try out all the products. What did you get this month?
