It’s been a while! I’ve been a bit MIA lately, but I finally have some time to myself and am in a pensive mood. It’s crazy how some things in life really do come so unexpectedly.
When one door closes, another door opens; but we so often look so long and regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.

It really seems that a lot of luck has flown my way in the past few days. However, I’m beginning to wonder if this is really considered luck. Maybe it’s just that, in the words of Taylor Swift (<– yes, click on that link), “for the first time, what’s past is past.” Now I can actually see all the new open doors: new people and experiences have come into my life. Speaking of luck, I’ve apparently won a lot of goodies from the Allure Free Stuff August 2013 Giveaway. Here’s a look at the first few that have come my way. I definitely have positive experiences with the cleanser and the hair treatment. Have you tried any of these products? Have you won anything from the giveaway?

Happy Veterans Day!
Just a quick reminder that today is the last day to enter our giveaway (beauty box valued at $140)! One winner will be chosen tomorrow… good luck! 🙂 It was great to go home and spend some quality time with mera baba (Chindi? hehe). The state of Kentucky just gets lovelier and lovelier each additional time I go back. Distance makes the heart grow fonder? Blue skies, soft cotton clouds, bluegrass in the wind… sigh. And again, fall is the prettiest season. The juicer that I got for my parents as a present (for their anniversary? Maybe? It’s a year late lols) came and so we put it to use right away. I still remember my BluePrint juice cleanse (scroll to the bottom of the link provided to see a list of their juices). We decided to make a slightly different version of the green juice.
Thank goodness for the groupon deal… because we were able to snatch the Cuisinart Juice Extractor. It’s got five different speeds and was easy enough to use and clean. It is surprisingly quiet!
1 lime (peeled)
4 (leaves of) kale
2 medium apples
The order that I put the veggies/fruit into the juicer is as above. Since there are 5 speeds, I started at the lowest speed (softest fruit/veggie) and worked my way up. You can eyeball the amount of each ingredient that you want to add, but I will say that the cucumber/lime/apples are key for this juice. They are what helps to balance out the bitterness in the kale. So so so delicious. And much cheaper than the BluePrint juice that I bought! However, we were a bit sad to waste the pulp… If at some point you’ve had to experience hunger or not having enough to eat (this is, fortunately, not something I’ve been through), you’d be more aware of what happens to the food… and so mera baba was uncomfortable with just throwing all that out… so we thought and thought…
What to do with all this PULP?
We made spicy ground pork with basil noodle soup earlier that morning so we decided to use the leftover ground pork to make MEATBALLS! Teehee. It worked perfectly. Extra fibery. We added some cornstarch, an egg, salt, pepper, soy sauce, and some additional spices. The result was wonderful! The sweetness from the lime and apples and even from the cucumbers give the meatballs such a distinct flavor. 🙂
This was most certainly a success for us in the food department 🙂
Happy Monday! We’re sitting here with out coffee, green teas, black teas, tasty breakfast foods (pastries? sandwiches?)… ready to face the week! How are you gearing up? Did you watch the Emmy Awards last night? What did you think? Anyways, this is just a reminder that you still have about a week left to enter our beauty box (valued at more than $140) giveaway. First, just a quick reminder about our Beauty Box Giveaway. You’ve still got lots of time to enter 🙂 Hope y’alls are having a lovely Sunday evening. Sunday evenings are a time I reserve for myself… and pampering! Tonight will be a facial/spa night with Raanjhanaa (a Bollywood movie I have been dying to watch… I found the full movie !!!). If you haven’t been following, I’m starting a Journey to the East beauty series. Last time, I mentioned how through a Youtube video, I found out about the use of a foaming net to cleanse your face. As it goes with YouTube videos, I went on a video spiral and stumbled upon this interesting product from Japan: Cure Natural Aqua Gel.
In the video, I saw someone use one pump of this clear gel. She left it on her face for a few seconds and started massaging and little clumps of dead skin and dirt came off! What sort of sorcery and magic is this?!?!?! I had to get my hands on this product to try.. it’s a bit pricey but it seems that the bottle can last a while. If you’re interested, I purchased mine (250 ml) here on Amazon.

According to Cure, the product –
- Is free from preservatives, fragrance, artificial coloring or alcohol
- Contains 90% revitalized hydrogen water
- Contains natural plant extracts from aloe vera, gingko, and rosemary
- Prevents enlarged pores, blackheads, pimples, blemishes and dull skin tone.
I’ve been using this product every other day for about two weeks now. I have yet to detect any noticeable differences. It’s a clear, water-based gel (really nice for sensitive skin). It works best when you’ve dried your skin. The first time I used it, my forgot to dry my face after cleansing, and everything just rolled right off my face. 😛 After about 10-15 seconds, I started massaging and it’s not a lie! Little dead skin thingies start rolling off! I’m still confused as to what this “reaction” is and what these “white clumps” are. But I’ll let you know if I find out. Have you used this product before? Do you think it’s something you’d be willing to try?
Pros: Easy/quick to use, Immediate result, Gentle to the Skin, Water-based, Fragrance-free
Cons: I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IS HAPPENING (:P), Expensive, Difficult to find
Would I purchase again? I’m undecided at the moment. But I think I might!
Look at that! My dead skin!!

Hai! Quick reminder that our SomethingNavy and Jewelmint Dress Giveaway is ending tonight! If you haven’t entered yet, you have about 11 more hours to do so ! 🙂
Now I promised you the breathtaking view that President Abe sees every night… so here it is ~
I mentioned that I took a trip to see the memorials/monuments of Washington, DC after my dining experience at Jaleo DC in my previous post. I have visited the city landmarks multiple times during family vacations as a kid. However, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of these places at night. What a difference it makes! And how lovely it is! I also didn’t realize that so many people come out at night to see these famous memorials/monuments. Enjoy ~
We started out at the US National World War II Memorial. This is one of my favorite ones to visit with the 56 pillars surrounding the plaza and fountain. This is also a great place to view the Washington Monument –
From the World War II Memorial plaza, you can see the Lincoln Memorial from afar. When you’re actually standing there, the memorial seems like a short walk, but it’s actually quite far (well, I guess it’s not that far… hehe).
After a quick-ish walk, we have arrived at the front of the memorial. We spy Abe.
Whew! What a climb… let’s take a break and look up at the aesthetics of it all!
And there he sits as he gazes out at the lovely city of Washington, DC.
