Today, I am regrouping.

Charkie is trying to brainwash us into swooning over Simon van Booy (it’s really not that hard, though) so I’m listening to his radio interview as I write this post. His new book is called The Illusion of Separateness. Plug of the day.

Anyway, this weekend was a good one (and it seems the other arkies had good weekends too!) I got to see a friend that has just spent the year traveling around the whole world–11 countries in 11 months–and it was great to talk to her and another good friend about culture and culture shock and race, religion, ethics, etc across the world. And we talked about the usual stuff like weddings and babies and whatever else it is 20-somethings are talking about these days. I haven’t sat down for a good chat in a while (with the exception of talking to jarkie on the train last weekend) so this was really nice. And we went to this place called Cocoa Cinnamon in Durham which sells stuff like drinking chocolate and other things people flock for. I had the Middle Eastern Iced Coffee. After the lovely afternoon, I went to visit another friend who has just come back from Atlanta and I slept over. Her adorable almost-4-years-old nephew was an endless source of energy and we all stayed up pretty late. I can’t do these late nights anymore, y’all. I’m getting too old for them!

Now, as my title suggests, I am beginning the process of regrouping. Remember that job interview I mentioned a couple weeks ago? Well, even though the interview went really well, I didn’t get the job. I was kinda bummed but I guess I’m in the “everything happens for a reason” camp and I need to positively look forward to what is coming in the future instead of dwelling on what has gone in the past.

*Side note: I get these “morning mantra/thought of the day” emails and today’s quote is from Michael Jordan.

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that’s why I succeed.”

I’ll take that to heart. Onward and upward I go!

(back to svb) I wish my separateness was just an illusion. I’m in the phase of missing people now. I mean, I always miss people but most times, I just put it out of my mind. But there have been so many nostalgic moments in the past few weeks…perhaps I’m still in the stage of life where my happy memories are still accompanied by longing to go back there. But does that ever go away? Hmmm…

Have a good day, all! I hope you find yourselves in positive spaces today 🙂

p.s. if anyone is interested, and I know you are, Chelsea won their first game of the season with B-E-A-UTIFUL goals by Oscar and Lampsy. Madrid also won, making this a rather successful weekend all around!

Today, I am back to reality*!

Lol it seems Jarkie posted while I was trying to put my pix up! I’ll try not to be redundant…but there can’t be too much blues talk, IMO 😉

I spent the past weekend in the wonderful Chelsea-land (a football infused utopia I’ve created in my mind) and got to spend some quality time with Jarkie in Bethesda! Our non-game time was pretty relaxed and relaxing and we got to enjoy sushi, bridal magazines, skyping with char, french breakfasts, and free cupcakes! We also got to see our lovely friend Nina before she headed off to start med school! It’s so wonderful to be able to spend quality time with friends in this  period of our lives when everyone is moving to and fro and transitioning into being real people. 😛

For the whole weekend, I was not-so-jokingly toying with the idea of going to the team hotel and trying to get autographs. I wasn’t sure if that was a real thing that people do and I didn’t want to be like some random stalker. But I did see a video of (a lot of) people doing that so next time Chelsea is in town, I’ll definitely be trying to get some photos!
Anyway, we did get to the stadium insanely early because I wanted to see if we could catch a glimpse of the players and WE DID! We pressed up against the fence to greet their bus and watch them walk into the tunnel. Standing for nearly 2 hours against the fence was totally worth it and having Jannie and my cousin Richard there with me is a memory I will surely cherish! Instead of posting too many details, I’ll just leave you with some photos (click to see larger size and captions). We (chelsea) ended up winning 2-1 and we (J,R,M) were sitting about 100ft away from the end zone. WOOT!

All in all, it was a great experience and I hope to have many more similar ones. As for now, it’s back to life as normal and trying to establish some kind of routine again…we’ll see how that goes. OH the season starts for both Chelsea and Madrid this weekend so maybe that’ll make things feel like normal again! I guess summer really is almost over…

Have a lovely day! 🙂

*Who am I kidding? I’m always in Chelsealand.

Today, I recap the weekend!

Whooooo, thanks to Markie, I’m officially a Chelsea FC fan! Markie came to see the Chelsea vs Roma (read this article… since I am no sports reporter… or wait for Markie’s official post) friendly at RFK Stadium in DC. I decided to tag along with her and who knew? My fascination for free things and pretty men would bring me to be a fan. Since it was a friendly [I’m assuming this], both teams seemed to be conserving energy. The second half definitely seemed to have far more energy.

For some weird reason, the section we were seated in decided to stand the entire game. No one else in the stadium did that. This led to some commotion with people behind us screaming “SIT DOWN. SIT DOWN. SIT DOWN.” Someone went as far to scream “THERE ARE LITTLE KIDS BACK HERE. THEY CAN’T SEE. SIT DOWN.” It was a bit frustrating, since I’m lazy and I like sitting. I would have been able to see so much more had everyone sat. Both oh well 🙂

And now to my collection, nine Chelsea flags. A CFC scarf, a jersey (that is technically for my dad… but for now, it belongs to me 😛 ), a pin…. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 a lanyard. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 Okay, that’s it for now.

Score: 2 CHELSEA, 1 ROMA

Okay and for the pictures –

In action (sort of)

Prettty oscar.

Um… anyone feeling a little warm? Nando

David making his way into RFK. Markie thinks he had a limp. Me thinks he was just trying to be cool 😛 😛 😛

I am SO SO SO SO EXCITED. I just bought TICKETS FOR MY FIRST EVER CHELSEA GAME. Oh my, I could faint. To add to that excitement, JARKIE IS COMING WITH ME! I should have asked her before I even bought them instead of assuming that she wouldn’t want to go but she managed to get a ticket right behind us so I’m sure we’ll work it out! O H E M G E E. I get to cross something off my bucket list.
