Today, I’m on a journey to the past…

Pani Puri!

My eyes glistened as I saw the dish listed under the appetizers at Tandoori Nights in Bethesda Row.  My roomie and I … well, let’s just say our original plan was to study… which then led to buying a groupon… which then let to us looking at the menu. This isn’t really a review of the restaurant (I can yelp that 😛 )… this is more just an ode to my lovely pani puris!

Pani is the hindi word for water. And puri’s are a deep-fried sort of bread. In this case, they’re tiny (perfect snack size!), round and punched through the top.  Tandoori Night had chickpeas, potatoes and tamarind chutney in them.  The spiced water was tasty … but a little too thick. I prefer a lighter consistency. However, it brought back such good memories…. My only complaint is … WHY NOT FEED ME 10 of THESE? Or 20?! I only got 3 😦 Sad 😦

Nomnomnom!

Nomnomnom!

When I was in Udaipur, I never got a chance to take a picture of it… because … ain’t nobody got time for dat!

You best be taking the puri from the street vendor and stuffing them in your mouth as quickly as you can. So so so good! One of my favorite foods! And it’s late, so I should sleep. I’ll leave you with a picture that brings traditional food a little Western flair. The second time I had gone back to Udaipur (end of May to beginning of July 2011), I had caught the grand opening of Udaipuri, a vegetarian kitchen that serves Indian and International cuisine. I remember eating falafels and Thai curry!  Since this was a classier place, I had to control myself… And so I managed a picture before I took a shot (non-alcoholic). hehe. But anyways, enjoy the picture! I can almost taste the spicy water in my mouth. Good night!

Today, I am surrounded by the Great Tea Wall…

of Bethesda. Zen Tara Tea is one of my favorite places in my good place of residence (Bethesda, MD) to study. No work today (thanks Georgetown!) and thus, here I am, camped out at this little tea shop, with my blue pot o’ Mandarin Citrus White Tea 🙂 Little hints of grapefruit… 🙂 It’s a great place to concentrate… or it can be a great place to eavesdrop, people-watch. Interesting to hear how some people talk about themselves… and their clients… and la dee la dee la. It reminds me of Charkie’s post of Sheryl Sandberg… and of Sandberg’s TED talk. Some people just think everything happens cause they’re awesome. What will I do? Ignore that… and think that I’m awesome too and so I can do this! I can do this!

Anyways, off to studies I go… already starting to dream of all the things I can do after next Thursday, but let me not trip over my other feet while I walk (as the Parking staff at Georgetown so witnessed me do a couple weeks ago… me oh mai). And here is a quote that Zen Tara Tea has placed on my little table: “The person who doesn’t read good books has no advantage over the person who can’t read them.”

Ta-ta, dear friends! Happy happy Friday!

Citrus Tea and Nut Tossie in Bethesda makes me bahut khushi!

Today, I’m a jealous girlfriend…

Except I can’t claim that since I was never Jennifer Lawrence’s gf. Lol. I mean, we have the same initials, no matter how you look at it. My nickname, my legal name, anything… it’s still JL. And we’re both from the good ole Louisville. Born in the same year. Almost the same month, not quite. Seems like everyone these days wants to be her best friend. Stop trying to steal her away from me! Haha, okay, I have no right to claim her. I don’t know her at all! But doesn’t matter cause she’s wonderful. I don’t need to go into reasons why. Now I found this on buzzfeed today… which they got from WAVE3 (I think?) — a local news station from back home 🙂

She’s too cool right? Anyways, that’s it for today. Back to studies I go. Momentum? Check. Energy? Check. Work? Check. Moving on!

In terms of my Bethesda life, I found a deli near my house (Woodmont Deli)… the owner of the shop (so adorable!) is so sweet to me always! I’ve apparently gone too many times, because this morning as I walked in, I didn’t even have to say what I wanted, she just turned and began making my sandwich. Never been able to catch this place for lunch but their breakfast options are pretty vast… you can get a sandwich in anything (fluffy croissants, white/wheat toast, etc…)… and they will always give you so much butter that your heart would melt, not to mention Paula Dean would be proud. Also quite nice is that they seem to serve pancakes and home fries as part of their breakfast trays. Wraps and Omelettes too! I’ll have to come back and check it out. Never had the fortune of being a regular, so here I am basking in the glory of such a title 🙂

Cute, right?

Egg, Ham & Cheese on White Toast (with so much butter)

Good night, dear friends.

Today, I am basking in the gift …

that my boss has given me: no work today! A day of just lounging around in my PJ’s on my bed (substitute for couch). It’s a bit strange not to feel so connected to BuzzFeed or ThoughtCatalog for a day… but oh well, I’ll just have to catch up later. I have just recently discovered Anderson Live and it is a wonderful thing! I will go back to my old Kentucky home tomorrow!!!! 😀 😀 😀

For now, I waiting for food from Penang – Hainanese Chicken (steamed chicken with soy sauce with rice) and Mango Pudding and a Coke Can. So EXCITED!!!!!! I love you, bethesda. But I also hate you for potentially increasing my risk of getting a stroke or heart attack one day and for digging into my savings.

This is what I am waiting for. It should be on its way! Delivery makes life so much easier!

Today, it is Day 6, the end of a mixtape, the beginning of a new week…

Today it is Monday (I am not Rebecca Black, otherwise that should have gone “Yesterday, it was Sunday, today it is monday, tomorrow is tuesday and then comes Wednesday… ” Yeah. End of that). This past weekend, I spent time just enjoying Bethesda. It was a trip to La Madeleine and Tastee Diner and Sala Thai again (TOM KHA and DRUNKEN CHICKEN = SO GOOD). Anyways, this is the end of my mixtape. Hope you’ve enjoyed. 🙂

Xin Hai Shi Re De

心還是熱的
The Heart is Still Warm

(I) have once romantically believed, have also grievingly suspected before
I have faced myself, who got plundered by love
I did not know how to protect (myself)

(I) have wilfully let someone down, (I) have also broken down before when I got abandoned
(I) have tasted the sweet and sour consequence
(I) have learnt that I have to make decisions

The heart is still warm, I do not have to be afraid anymore
A story that brings tears, when I think about it again I would smile
I will proudly remember that I have bravely acted on impulse before
(I) have left a brilliant moment

To overlook always make one dazed, when I look back that is when I finally understand
What I have obtained is even more precious than what I have lost
It is already considered a fulfilled dream

The heart is still warm, the eyes are even clearer
The tortuous history have shaped me to who I am
I have made a promise for my belief, still bravely staying persistent
A suave silence

The old scars have peeled off, a new life has begun
Love is like flowers that would blossom constantly
The fragility that got blown dry by the wind, is what can be made to a rope
So that (I) can climb up to maturity

The heart is still warm, the eyes are even clearer
The tortuous history have shaped me to who I am
I have made a promise for my belief, still bravely staying persistent
A suave silence

The heart is still warm, it cannot be brought down by anyone
If the chest do not have clouds then the world will have a clear sky
