Today, I am preparing for the dry weather (Perlier Honey Body Butter)…

It’s getting cold and that means that it’s more important now to have a good body cream to lock in the moisture of the skin! I was excited to have been sent Perlier’s Imperial Honey Body Butter complimentary of iFabbo (@PerlierUSA #PerlierOnHSN). This is the second Perlier Product that I’ve tried (I’ve previously tried a body scrub).

The jar looks small, but it’s definitely densely packed. The body butter is formulated with the honey of black bees and royal jelly to nourish the skin with moisture. It’s definitely got a whipped butter feel (imagining opening a tub of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! … haha). The smell is a bit too sticky and sweet for me but it’s worth it mostly because a little goes a long way. It leaves my skin feeling silky and smooth.

Today, I tell my story … (Birchbox September 2013 Review)

Heritage. That is the theme for the September 2013 Birchbox. I usually don’t pay much attention to their themes, since I feel like the products don’t really match the theme. However, it’s their three year anniversary, so I decided to read the card a little more this month.

The best part about beauty? … It’s the stories…. every[one has their] own fascinating history…
                                                           –Birchbox, September 2013

Having to write a lot about myself lately (anyone else working on applications of any kind? school? work? etc?), I’ve touched upon the subject of my past experiences, my stories, and my heritage. I’ve never really stopped to think about myself so much. My name was inspired by a Chinese proverb that literally means “when you drink water, remember its source” (yin shui si yuan). One can think of this as the quality of the water depends on the source. The character is also part of the name of a village in China my family is from. The other part of my name was inspired by a proverb that literally means “brocade-like future” (jin xiu qian cheng). As the theme of silk has been interwoven into this saying, it means glorious or bright future. If you put the two together, it means I will [hopefully haha] have a bright future, but no matter what, I will stop and remember my beginnings and where I come from (my source). How neat is that? 🙂 So with my applications and my birchbox, I’m taking some time to think about my past, my family, my culture and my heritage.  Texas, Stockholm, China (all of it), Kentucky, India (specifically Udaipur…), …. DC… and now what’s next? [I’ll be able to tell you in about EIGHT months.] What about you? What exciting stories do you carry with you?

The pretty box! I haven’t been too impressed with Birchbox lately, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE this box.

Davines This Is a Sea Salt Spray (3.38 oz / $10.80)
I have really enjoyed all the Davines products that Birchbox has let me try. I’ve also learned to become fond of sea salt sprays. They give me such a nice added shape/volume/texture that allows me to forgo blowdrying my hair. I just spray this onto my damp hair, put into a messy bun and let it dry on my drive to work. In addition, it has a really nice dessert like (is it cinnamon?) scent!

Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara (0.39 oz / $20.00) – FULL SIZE!!!
I don’t wear mascara. And it’s such a great value for a birchbox! I’m sorry I can’t really say much about this other than.. it seems to get good reviews. Expect this in a future giveaway 🙂

[Beauty Extra] VOESH New York Green Tea Pedicure Masque (0.7 fl oz / $1.65)
This is part of a 3-step treatment. I have never heard of a mask for the feet but I love masks & I’m quite intrigued as the feet is probably the part of my body that I forget to take care of (in terms of moisturizing and such)… It’s suppose to soften the feet with grape seed extract and green tea!

COOLA Tinted Matte SPF for Face (0.10 oz / $2.11)
This seems like a 1 (maybe 2)-time use sample… Mineral-based tinted moisturizer with a matte finish.

RUFFIAN Nail Lacquer in Hedge Fund (0.17 oz / $10.00) – FULL SIZE!!!! – PHOTO BELOW
At first, I felt this shade was a not-so-flattering shade of green (if you get where I’m going). But now that I’m wearing it, I kind of love it; it’s got such a nice shine. I’m assuming the hedge fund refers to the “money green” metallic feel? One coat is all that’s needed. Goes on smoothly and evenly and is quick to dry. I love the shape of the bottle cap; it allows me to have a nice and steady grip while painting the nails. Yay!

Final Thoughts? Wow, Birchbox! Thanks for making me happy this month! I use Birchbox more as a way to introduce me to products rather than to get a good deal of full-size products for a good value. But all the samples in this box were decently sized, so I’m a happy gal (even if I can’t use the mascara). The total value of the box came to $44.56 (I might have calculated the sea salt spray incorrectly… the photo for full size bottle and the description on the website didn’t match so I had trouble there… if that’s the case, the value for this box is even higher). I thought this was a nice box as it contained products for my hair, eyes (make-up), skin (feet/lower legs & face), and nails! Great variety and good value this month! What did you get in your box this month? We’d love to hear your thoughts 🙂

Today, I am loving Cool Britannia!! (Glossybox Best of Britain Limited Edition Review)

Downton Abbey is coming back to the UK on September 22! I vowed to never watch it again after how Season 3 ended, but I just can’t seem to keep away from it. Chelsea FC is an English football club. We love the royal family (and the royal baby is adorbs). Not to mention, I believe my current crush is English (hahahaha or I just have a really bad sense of such things and he just has a Southern accent… um, not the same thing? … uh… right). Do you see a trend? We/I kind of love cool Britannia! Glossybox does too… I was so excited to receive my Glossybox Best of Britain (Limited Edition) today! 🙂

If you’re unfamiliar with Glossybox, it’s a subscription box (it’s about $20 a month depending on your subscription plan). I recently opted out because I wanted to cut back on my spending… I did enjoy Glossybox when I had it (check out my previous boxes here). I’ve also purchased their Mother’s Day Limited Edition box which I enjoyed. I’m even happier with my Best of Britain box!

Glossybox has the cutest packaging!

Each box comes with a Glossybox Union Jack accessory bag, a small bag that is great for traveling. I have too many random bags, so expect this in a future giveaway 🙂

Steamcream All-in-One Natural Moisturizer for Face Body & Hands (2.65 oz / $19.50)
This is probably one of my favorite products in this box. The light scent is perfect, giving it a very “natural” and “handmade” feel. It’s got a very light, whipped texture (sour cream?) that I love! I’ll be using it for my dry elbows and knees as fall and winter coming in.

Mitchell and Peach Luxury Hand Cream (2.1 fl oz / $26.00)
EXCITED. I’ve been using my MOR luxury hand cream from my previous Blush box a little too quickly… so this will be a perfect replacement. This one’s got Vitamin E, shea butter, and English honey to soothe your hands. I just used some and it’s oh so light, delightful, smells wonderful… and the best part is that it absorbs very easily.

Batiste Dry Shampoo blush (1.6 fl oz / $2.30)
I recently purchased the full-size version of this on my TJ Maxx haul. Love it! I use it daily to give my hair a nice texture/body/shape/shine. It smells nice & has a nice cooling effect when you spray it on… this is a perfect travel-size version!

HD Brows Grow Baby Grow ($45.60)
Eh… I think this is the last of my concerns. If anything, my eyebrows are too bushy and need to STOP growing. Thus, I can’t comment on this product. But if this is something you want to try, do keep an “eye” out… as it’ll probably appear in a future giveaway 🙂

MeMeMe Cosmetics Beat the Blues Skin Illuminator in Pearl Pink (0.41 fl oz / $8.30)
I’m EXCITED, again. Now when I stay up too late watching shows/dramas or getting stressed out by work/studies/apps, I can fight the dullness of my skin with this illuminator. Iridescent is the key word here!

Nails Inc. Kensington Caviar Top Coat (0.33 fl oz / $18.20)
That is some expensive Top Coat. They say it’s got 45-second dry-time formula, which is true. Dried really quickly! Gives your nail polish a little (tiny bit) of added shine! I can’t comment on chipping since I just applied it tonight.

NailGirls London WHITE#1 (0.33 fl oz / $12.90)
Um… I’ve never tried white nail polish. According to Glossybox’s description, it’s this season’s trend. I guess it can look alright… but I don’t think it’s work-place appropriate. It would good for my coworkers to NOT think that I just applied a ton of white-out from the supplies closet onto my nails. LOL. But it’ll be good for a french look 🙂

Helen É Lasting Lip Colour in Raspberry (0.12 oz / $12.20)
I love the creaminess to this lipstick. It goes on so smoothly and nicely… and the color is very vibrant. However, raspberry is a bit too dark for me. But I’ll hold onto it… and maybe if I need to have a more mature or brooding look, I can make use of this shade.

photo

Final Thoughts? The value of the box came to $145, which definitely covers what I paid for it ($40). However, personally, this box is worth $100 (since I won’t be using the HD brows)… but that’s still a great value! I really loved that the box covered skincare, makeup, nail care, and hair care. A really great Limited Edition box. I’m really glad I was able to grab one of these 🙂 Did you get this box? Have you gotten previous Glossybox Limited Edition Boxes? What are you thoughts? Would love to hear them 🙂

Until next time~ (my birchbox also came tonight… so next time probably means another review tomorrow hehe). Good night~!

Today, I continue my Journey to the East with Natural Aqua Gel…

First, just a quick reminder about our Beauty Box Giveaway. You’ve still got lots of time to enter 🙂 Hope y’alls are having a lovely Sunday evening. Sunday evenings are a time I reserve for myself… and pampering! Tonight will be a facial/spa night with Raanjhanaa (a Bollywood movie I have been dying to watch… I found the full movie !!!). If you haven’t been following, I’m starting a Journey to the East beauty series. Last time, I mentioned how through a Youtube video, I found out about the use of a foaming net to cleanse your face. As it goes with YouTube videos, I went on a video spiral and stumbled upon this interesting product from Japan: Cure Natural Aqua Gel.

3bed8bc4150a11e3873722000a1fcfc8_7

In the video, I saw someone use one pump of this clear gel. She left it on her face for a few seconds and started massaging and little clumps of dead skin and dirt came off! What sort of sorcery and magic is this?!?!?! I had to get my hands on this product to try.. it’s a bit pricey but it seems that the bottle can last a while. If you’re interested, I purchased mine (250 ml) here on Amazon.

Cure Directions

image via japalang.sg

According to Cure, the product –

  • Is free from preservatives, fragrance, artificial coloring or alcohol
  • Contains 90% revitalized hydrogen water
  • Contains natural plant extracts from aloe vera, gingko, and rosemary
  • Prevents enlarged pores, blackheads, pimples, blemishes and dull skin tone.

I’ve been using this product every other day for about two weeks now. I have yet to detect any noticeable differences. It’s a clear, water-based gel (really nice for sensitive skin). It works best when you’ve dried your skin. The first time I used it, my forgot to dry my face after cleansing, and everything just rolled right off my face. 😛 After about 10-15 seconds, I started massaging and it’s not a lie! Little dead skin thingies start rolling off! I’m still confused as to what this “reaction” is and what these “white clumps” are. But I’ll let you know if I find out. Have you used this product before? Do you think it’s something you’d be willing to try?

Last Thoughts?
Pros: Easy/quick to use, Immediate result, Gentle to the Skin, Water-based, Fragrance-free

Cons: I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IS HAPPENING (:P), Expensive, Difficult to find

Would I purchase again? I’m undecided at the moment. But I think I might!

Look at that! My dead skin!!

Today, I prepare for the change in season with the ULTA Collection…

I was so so so excited to have found out that I won the Birthday Beauty Giveaway hosted by Michelle over at Beautiful Goodies. September is my birthday month, so I’m considering this as my early birthday present. Haha 🙂 Michelle’s birthday was towards the end of August (Happy belated birthday!), I believe, and it was such a sweet thing for her to host a giveaway! If you haven’t checked out her blog, you should check it out! Prior to stumbling upon the world of beauty subscription boxes, she considered herself a “Plain Jane.” Things are different now, of course 🙂 The package came in a timely manner and I was so happy to receive make-up from ULTA to play with. I’m not much of a makeup gal, but this opportunity will give me a chance to change things up a bit… just in time for a change in season! My favorite season is FALL/AUTUMN! 🙂 I love being able to wear layers, scarves, stockings, tights, leg warmers (okay that’s closer to winter), boots … etc. The change in color of the leaves , apple cider, pumpkin-flavored things… sigh… so amazing. Anyways, let me show ya what I received.

I had no idea that ULTA has their own collection!  All the products were full-sized and products that I will use.

Salon Nail Polish in Grin and Berry It – I love this shade. In the light in looks like a pretty magenta… but it can look pink or purple depending on the lighting and whatnot. Love it for fall!

Smokey Eyes Eyeliner in Smoke – always need eyeliner 🙂 Excited! 🙂

Mineral Blush in Sweet Pea – I’ve been looking for a blush! It’s small enough to stick in a clutch or small wallet for on-the-go touch-ups!

Eye Shadow in Plum Smoke

Eye Shadow in Lustre

Nourishing Mineral Lip Gloss in Rose Garnet –

Loving the new nail polish and lip gloss! Already using both today!

I cannot wait to try out the eyeliner, eye shadows, and blush! Have you heard of or tried the ULTA Collection? They seem to be well priced… and you can get a BUY 2 GET 1 free deal right now. 🙂 I might have to check out some of their other products!!

Today, I am soaking in [imaginary] hot springs! (Perlier Volcanic Thermo Scrub Review)

I was SO EXCITED to have been sent the Perlier Volcanic Thermo Scrub complimentary of iFabbo. 🙂 #PerlierOnHSN

I’ve actually been searching for a good body scrub. However, as I’ve spent too much money on random beauty products (those shopping trips will be documented in upcoming blog posts so stay tuned 🙂 teehee) and subscription boxes, I had been holding off on buying one. After all, a good soap bar should be sufficient, right? Have you tried this product before? Is there a scrub that you love? Please share below! 🙂

a558818612ad11e39edf22000ae916b0_7

Perlier Volcanic Thermal Spa Thermo Renewing Scrub
$25.00 + S&H ($6.21)
6.7 fl oz
What is it?
A thermal scrub with micronutrients extracted from volcanic rocks. According to the product descriptions and HSN, it contains hot water from the hot spring concession located in the municipality of Abana Terme, helps to create a more youthful appearance for your skin (dull-looking skin, GOOD BYE!), is rich in mineral salts, contains minerals of different sizes for both rejuvenating and smoothing actions.

Am I spoiled? Apparenty, yes.

So how did it go? As lovely as I imagined! I was a bit disappointed when I received my previous iFabbo product (mostly because I don’t have wrinkles, so I couldn’t really provide an objective review). However, this product made up for the previous disappointment. To start with, the packaging is a plastic jar. I guess if you drop the product, you won’t have glass breaking. Upon opening, a light aqua scent flows through your nostrils, a very nice spa-like smell, for sure!

That is such a pretty color, reminds me of a lovely beach

The texture of the product is not too watery and not too dense.. just the right amount. When I tried to smooth it/massage it onto my skin with just my bare hands, it was a little difficult. I feel like this is a product that does not fit the description of “a little goes a long way.” However, I later tried using my scrubbing mitt (I purchased mine at T.J. Maxx), and it made it significantly easier to use this scrub. The scent is so lovely and the best part is that it’s a very light scent. Just enough to make you feel relaxed (like you’re chilling at a luxurious spa), but not enough to overpower you and make you feel uncomfortable. 🙂 I felt squeaky clean afterwards and my skin has felt a little softer after a couple of uses. I’m excited to continue to use this product. I will be sad when I am done with it, but luckily, it’s not too expensive.

What it looks like smoothed on the skin. There are little beads (of apparently mineral salts) that you massage into the skin. Lovely scrub!

I’m content and satisfied.

Today, I prepare for autumn a little early (Allure Fall Beauty Box 2013 Review)…

My Allure Fall 2013 Beauty Box arrived TODAY! So happy –

Let me just say that August is an awesome month! Every day this month, you can log on/sign up to win free things on Allure.com. Have any of y’all won anything before? This is my first time trying. I’ve heard that you don’t know if you win or not; the prizes just show up at your door 1-1.5 months later. I’ll definitely share if any goodies come my way. I’ve talked Markie into doing this too! She better give me something if she wins! 😛

photo 1 (26)

Yiippeeeee! Look what arrived! Comes with a little booklet of products.

This is also the first time I’ve purchased a beauty box. I tried to purchase the Summer 2013 one but completely forgot about the time (I think I was busy eating… of course) and logged on about 18 minutes late. It was sold out by the time I tried to purchase it. This time, for the fall box, I made sure to watch the clock.

Allure Fall Beauty Box 2013
Cost: $39.99 plus shipping & tax**
Value: Over $350 worth of products!
What: A collection of 23 of fall’s most essential products!
**Generally comes to around $50-$52

My thoughts? THIS WAS AN AWESOME BOX. I really don’t have any complaints. I mean… how can you complain about all these full size products? And the value of the box? It finally added up to $355.60 (this is of course calculated by me, Jarkie, to the best of my ability… but I can’t guarantee the value is EXACTLY that… )!!!! So happy. So much stuff to test out! Did you purchase a fall beauty box? What are you most excited to try out? Least excited to? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Take a look … take a look! So ecstatic! It’s like Christmas in… well, in August! ….

Cetaphil® Daily Advance® Lotion Ultra Hydrating (8 oz / $11.99)
I used some on my legs… seems light and quick absorbing! Not really a scent here which is good. I like their cleanser so I’m also happy to give this lotion a try.

Neutrogena® Oil-Free Acne Wash (5 oz / $6.49)
I do need a cleanser! I’m not too picky when it comes to cleansers… as long as it can clean my face 😀

Simple® Hydrating Light Moisturizer (4.2 oz / $10.99)
I opened this to try it… First thoughts? Not much smell… very very light and quick absorbing. I just wish it had SPF … so that I could wear it during the day.

Neutrogena® Rapid Tone Repair Night Moisturizer (1 oz / $20.99)
I don’t have dark spots… so maybe I’ll gift this to my mom

photo 2 (28)

Goldwell® StyleSign® Magic Finish® Hairspray (8.7 oz / $17.99)
Apparently “enhances color brilliance” – I don’t really need this hairspray. So it’ll make a great gift or an addition to a future giveaway 🙂

KMS® California HAIRSTAY anti-humidity seal (4.1 oz / $17.99)
Shields hair from humidity and frizz? Hmmm, I’ll give this a try… maybe…

Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion (5.4 oz / $18.00)
I sometimes use a straightener so this will be perfect to protect my hair against the heat.

GK Hair Serum (1.69 oz / $25.00)
I was suppose to get a Tibolli Hair Oil… ummm this product came out of nowhere…but I’m not upset. The value is around the same… and both products supposedly tame frizz. The scent is a little too strong for me … and the serum seems kind of heavy… but I’ll give it more of a chance… it seems to have pretty good reviews.

Redken All Soft Argan-6 Oil (3 oz / $30.00)
Dry & Brittle hair?! This product was made for me. Definitely excited because I’ve never tried any Redken products.

Neutrogena® TRIPLE MOISTURE™ Deep Recovery Hair Mask (6 oz / $6.99)
AFFORDABLE HAIR MASK. I’ve seen pretty good reviews regarding this hair mask… and my hair certainly needs a mask!

Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Hair Mask (7 oz / $32.00)
Um my hair is damaged! This is needed! I’ve heard great things about Carol’s Daughter… so I’m excited to try. #monoimagic

photo 2 (29)

Pixi Eye Bright Liner ($17.00)
I’ve been using bright liners to make my eyes larger for a while now (well this is when I wear make-up … which is almost never) … a great addition to my slim collection of makeup

RoC® MULTI CORREXION® NOURISH Stress Repair Eye Cream (0.5 oz / $24.99)
Fights accelerated signs of aging caused by a stressful lifestyle? Yes, that’s me! Thanks!

Redermic® Eyes Dermatological AntI-Aging Eye Corrector – Intensive (~$41.00)??
This was a 2011 Allure Best of Beauty Award… the product combines pure retinol + caffeine to fight against crows-feet wrinkles and dark circles. Did someone say dark circles? Because I’ve got those! I’m a panda.

Burt’s Bees Revitalizing Lip Balm with Blueberry & Dark Chocolate ($3.30)
Love Burt’s bees! And it smells great, I’d say I smell/taste more of the dark chocolate than the blueberry!

BONUS PRODUCT!! – ROC Retinol Correxion Sensitive Night Cream (0.05 oz/ $1.14) – SAMPLE PACKET
At first, I thought I had been cheated of my ROC eye cream… but upon second thought, I realized this was a nice present 🙂

photo 4 (24)

Sally Hansen® Ouch-Relief™ Wax Strip Kit (32 wax strips / $10.99)
Oooo I am looking forward to trying this. If it works a-okay – then what a way to save money, right?! Salons are so expensive these days!

Sally Hansen® Airbrush Legs® in Medium ($12.99)
Hmmm has anyone used this before? I’m still not sure if I’ll try it or not.

Schick Hydro Silk® ($11.99)
I’ve gotten a sample one before and I like these alright. Razors cost a lot … and it’s great when I can get them in a box like this… or for free!

Skintimate® Skin Therapy Sensitive Skin (7 oz / $3.79)
Just in time! I need shaving cream.

photo 5 (20)

Sally Hansen® Salon Effects™ Real Nail Polish Strips in Laced Up ($9.99)
Mmmm it’s not that the design is ugly (it’s not pretty in my eyes either…but that’s only an opinion/preference)… rather it’s these designs just aren’t practical for me to be wearing around work. Seems like an interesting concept though.

Sally Hansen® Complete Salon Manicure™ Cuticle Eraser + Balm ($6.99)
I love using my Burt’s Bees cuticle balm… but I’ve run out so I’ll give this a try. It has a light scent of cucumbers. Such a pretty design, I hope it works as well. J

Sally Hansen® Complete Salon Manicure™* ($7.99)
This reminds me of the Deborah Lippmann nail polish I received (uhhh I’ve forgotten which box that was … memory problems). However, I’m not a fan of that polish… hopefully Sally Hansen will not disappoint me/us! Seven benefits in one! Supposedly like going to the salon!

SATION Wine-y Happy People ($5.00)
Dark Purple shade. Looks like a good shade for fall.

Seeing it all together makes me warm & fuzzy. I think I'm addicted. I need intervention :P
